A Day at Academy
Academy is an arts-based youth development program that empowers youth to find and use their voices through the arts, academics, and community service. We accomplish our mission by offering a variety of classes including performing arts, music, visual arts, food and nutrition, technology, tutoring, and more.
We offer visual and performing arts, culinary and nutrition classes, martial arts, music, and mixed media art classes. We offer three sessions each school year – Fall, Winter, and Spring. During each session our students are afforded the opportunity to take a variety of classes.
Here is what programming looks like at Academy:
- We pick students up from their schools and bring them to Academy. At the end of programming each day we deliver students back to their homes.
- Students check in, have snack (and dinner on evenings we offer later programming)
- Students receive 1.5 hours of art classes each day
- Students receive 1.5 hours of academic support/tutoring each day
- Grades and social/emotional development are monitored
- We engage our teens in enrichment opportunities in the evenings and on weekends
- We are linked with outside agencies to help meet needs of our students and, in some cases, their families.
